Application of SCM530 Streaming Current Detector in Water Treatment Plants (pH Jump)

Application of SCM530 Streaming Current Detector in Water Treatment Plants (pH Jump)

Streaming Current Detector meter is a kind of equipment used to detect the surface charge characteristics of particles in liquid. Its advantage lies in real-time monitoring of charge state and rapid reflection of changes in coagulation effect.

pH fluctuations require immediate dosage adjustments of coagulants, as they directly affect coagulant efficiency. Failure to respond promptly may compromise treatment effectiveness and result in substandard effluent quality.

The Bebur SCM530 flow current meter delivers rapid signal feedback during pH fluctuations, enabling the control system to adjust coagulant dosage promptly and minimize response lag.

Operational principle

The Bebur SCM530 Streaming Current Detector typically consists of sensors and controllers. The sensor's piston performs reciprocating motion within a ring-shaped electrode. When water samples containing coagulants pass through the sensor, the water in the electrode's annular space undergoes corresponding movement. This disturbance disrupts the double electric layer of colloidal particles, causing the water flow to carry counter-ions from the colloidal diffusion layer, thereby generating a flow current. This current is collected by electrodes at both ends, amplified by a signal amplifier, and rectified into a DC output signal. When the concentration of colloidal particles in water changes, the streaming current detector's detection values also fluctuate accordingly. This method provides real-time, reliable monitoring of coagulation effectiveness for raw water treatment.

Applications in pH mutation

Monitoring water quality changes: Sudden pH fluctuations can alter the surface charge characteristics of colloidal particles in water. The streaming current meter can detect real-time changes in particle surface charge caused by pH variations, generating corresponding current signal changes to support subsequent adjustments.

Integrated pH Regulation with Chemical Dosing System: In water treatment processes, sudden pH fluctuations may compromise coagulation efficiency, necessitating dosage adjustments. The streaming current meter and automated chemical dosing system form a closed-loop control system. When detecting deviations in flow current values caused by pH fluctuations beyond preset ranges, the system automatically adjusts coagulant dosage to restore optimal coagulation performance.

Application case

A southern municipal water treatment plant, which processes conventional water, reservoir water, and high-algae water with a daily capacity of 150,000 tons, experienced dramatic pH fluctuations between 16:00 and 19:30 that day. The pH value surged from 6.43 to 8.18. After the flow current meter detected abnormal charges caused by the sudden pH change, it automatically adjusted the coagulant dosage, increasing the poly aluminum ferric sulfate (PAC) addition from 34 kg/kt to 86 kg/kt. This adjustment stabilized the effluent quality in the sedimentation tank.

The streaming current meters serve dual functions as both 'early warning' and 'execution' tools in pH regulation, particularly effective in scenarios with significant water quality fluctuations and stringent reaction conditions. By integrating real-time charge monitoring with intelligent control systems, they significantly enhance process stability and reduce operational costs, making them a crucial technological solution in industrial automation and water treatment.
